Blog Post #1

My name is Shannon Persaud. I’m originally from New York but I mostly grew up in North New Jersey. I’m a pre- Social Science Education major and I am a sophomore. I hope to one day be a history teacher and graduate from Florida state with my masters. My favorite subjects in history are Roman history and Medieval Europe. I love music and going to concerts and cannot wait to get back to going to them. I am an only child and my parents recently moved to Orlando. I am really looking forward to this semester!

I have not had a lot of experience with technology in an educational setting. I think my experience is similar to many other students. I’ve used applications like canvas and google classroom to get information and materials for classes. I’ve used online applications like second life and kahoot as ways to module learning. I am very familiar for zoom and have used learning tools like pearson for supplemental materials in class. I have not had much experience with blogs or using social media in a social setting. I like using quizlet and khan academy for help if I need to reinforce material from the course.

Personally I use a few things in order to support my learning needs. I make sure that I have online documents as well as physical notebooks and folders to organize notes and work for classes. I have started keeping a calendar and find an easy way to keep track of dates and assignments. When studying I like to rewrite notes and condense material. I find talking about concepts out loud and simplifying subjects makes them more palitable. In classes I need to memorize more material. I love using quizlet as a means of studying.

  1. Hi Shannon! We both are in the same class and major, which is nice to see since I've met only two people in our major. I personally really like US History (specifically the 40s-60s) and World History when it comes to my favorite subjects in history. I also like the skills in your PLN, and I can relate the same on using the skills the same as yours.
